Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends
Economic Trend: Climate Change Is Causing More Natural Disasters
- https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666
- The data given in the article listed above show that there is a trend of increased severity and frequency of extreme weather events. The data talks about the highest number of forest fires in the past 10,000 years as well as floods occurring along the coast at 3 to 9 times higher than 50 years ago. This trend causes soybean and corn production to plummet when the temperature rises above 84 degrees.
- Farmers are the primary prototypical customer. However, increased food prices affect all people and require all people to combat the problem.
- Due to the political climate of today, I believe this opportunity will be difficult to address due to the polarization of American politics.
- I saw this opportunity because it is a hot topic in the news right now. I believe climate change needs to be addressed on a global level.
Economic Trend: Baby Boomers Aren't Retiring
- https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666
- The data in the article I believe clearly shows an opportunity based on the trend of baby boomers not retiring. Many older people were affected by the recession of 2008 and have since had to take up work again. Due to the recession, older folks find it necessary to have a steady income in case another recession occurs.
- The prototypical customer would be younger Millenials due to older folks not leaving the workforce.
- I believe there is a good chance to exploit this opportunity. Young people tend to have the time and means to get a better education to rise above the older crowd.
- This opportunity was made aware to me because I have seen the increased amount of older people in the workforce. Personally, I've worked alongside older people at retirement age.

- There is an opportunity to pass cybersecurity laws to help those in the cybersecurity industry based on the increased amount of cybersecurity attacks from China and Russia. Cybersecurity is most important in the financial industry due to extremely sensitive information at risk.
- The prototypical customer would be those with sensitive information at risk. As well as Financial institutions protecting user data.
- There is a good chance of this opportunity being exploited. There is a need for regulation in the cyber industry to improve ways of fighting against Cyber threats.
- This opportunity is a well-known issue in today's media. I have been hacked and know the importance of cybersecurity With the increasing amount of attacks and increased severity, I believe we need to address this opportunity.
Regulatory Trend: Tales from the cryptocurrency
- https://ext-marketing.com/marketing-articles/u-s-regulatory-trends-2019-and-beyond/
- Cryptocurrencies are on the rise in America. Issues have been raised regarding the legitimacy of the e currency. E currencies have been used with illegal money and transactions. There is an opportunity to regulate the cryptocurrency market.
- The Prototypical customer would be any person interested in a safer alternative to cash or card.
- There is a moderate chance of regulating cybersecurity due to a lot of the hype surrounding e-currency being lowered.
- The opportunity has always been an interest of mine due to the hype surrounding the cryptocurrency explosion. I think if the industry wants to survive, we should strive for a safer and more stable cryptocurrency.
Hi Samuel,
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Tales from the Cryptocurrency, I understand this area quite well. During the run of BTC and other Alt-Coins, it was proven that the market was wildly manipulated and the exchange's large volumes were due to a few key players moving large blocks of BTC from one exchange to another. This mis-representation of interest is what makes the need for Crypto to become regulated, as it is only currently defined as "personal property" and not currency.
Hey Samuel,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the cybersecurity threats. Considering in this day most people have a lot of personal information on their phones and computers; it makes anyone a potential target for seriously damaging attacks like identity theft. I have also noticed the increase in older people working into their 70’s and 80’s just because they can’t afford to not work.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteWhen discussing the climate change article, I agree with you that it is a hard subject to address and have an influence on due to the heavy amount of polarization in politics across the world. This is however a very important and pertinent issue. Just this year alone we have already seen a massive social media presence for the Australian fires. This is an issue that needs to be addressed somehow but would be difficult to go about.
Hi Samuel,
ReplyDeleteI think it's definitely a promising opportunity to look into cybersecurity threats, since the problem may only grow more serious as technology advances. I was indeed surprised by the depth into which you dived with your submission.I think if you wished to improve your submissions in the future, you could go into more detail about what inspired you regarding each opportunity.
Regards,
